Marcella Lucille Ortscheid, 89 of Dubuque, IA and formerly Galena, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Assisi Village Assisted Living, Dubuque. Funeral mass will be 11 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena friends may call after 9:30 AM at the church until time of mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born June 11, 1927 in Galena the daughter of Otto and Mary (Huilman) Berlage. She graduated from Belden School and Galena High School. Marcella married her husband of sixty-eight years Arnold Ortscheid on October 25, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elizabeth and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2015. They were the proud parents of five children. She was very proud to say she was born and lived on the family farm for 86 years of her life. She loved to crochet and many babies around the counties have one of her baby blankets. She loved watching the deer, turkey, birds and feeding all kinds of critters, including cats, horses, possums, raccoons and skunks. She is survived by her children, Robert (Susan) of Fishers, IN, Dennis (Kay) of Woodbury, MN, Ann (Jim) Haas of Byron, IL, Judy (John) Bennett of Iowa City, IA and Daniel Ortscheid of Iron Mountain, MI, a sister, Mercedes (Wallace) Moellenberndt of Sun Prairie, WI, two sisters in-law, Camillus Gassen and Rita Soppe, eight grandchildren, Karl Ortscheid, Lisa (Brad) Kammes, Jeremiah (Jackie) Haas, Nathaniel (Natalie) Haas, Jason, Ashley, Ryan and Sean Ortscheid, and seven great-grandchildren, Colton, Calvin and Carly Kammes, Britian, Reagan, Alaina and Hunter Haas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and sister. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents of Assisi for their great care and making mom smile everyday she was there.
