Theodore “Ted” DeBoor

Theodore Martin DeBoor, 88, of Galena, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughter on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Midwest Senior Community, Galena. A private family service will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, is assisting the family. He was born August 15, 1935, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Martin and Francis (Scott) DeBoor. Ted was united in marriage to his wife of sixty-two years, Roberta Christine Ness, on August 21, 1962. Theodore was known as “Ted,” his beloved stepson Ronnie affectionally called him “Teddy.” He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend and always had a jolly smile to share. His youngest grandchildren, Ashlyn-Renee and Cailyn knew him as their Paw Paw. He relocated with his family to Downy, CA, when he was 18. He began his career alongside his father in the metal pattern shop industry before moving on to the purchasing department for NASA. He loved woodworking and enjoyed being handy around the house, which led him to start his own handyman business. He was a bit of an entrepreneur adventuring into the start-up of various companies, from doll and children’s furniture and antique stores to a Sash and Door Company in Downy, CA. He also had a passion for building and spent many years owning a construction and contracting business. One of his dreams came true when he designed and built his mountain home in Truckee, CA. Eventually, Ted and his wife Roberta relocated to The Galena Territory, where he worked and enjoyed playing golf, especially when his daughter Renee would be on the course with him. He eventually retired and settled in Galena, where they have lived for over 20 years. Ted had a special place in his heart for the Chicago Cubs baseball team, always believing in the possibilities with each new season. Other interests he enjoyed were playing golf and antiquing. His most stressful adventure was teaching his daughter Renee how to drive. However, his most beloved treasure, and what he wanted to do the most, was spend time with his wife, Roberta. They had a special love like no other. Ted, Teddy, Dad, and Paw Paw was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Christine DeBoor, two daughters, Renee Cherie (Darren) DeBoor Houghton of Waxhaw, NC and Karen Sue (Carl) Gernert of Prineville, OR, a step-son, Rick Hunter, six grandchildren, Ashlyn-Renee Houghton, Cailyn Houghton, Chris Gernert, Katie Gernert, Kasey Gernert and Patrica Ann Hunter, a brother, Ron DeBoor, a sister, Rosemary Hibbard, and brother-in-law, Clyde Ness and his many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Martin DeBoor, and Ron Hunter, two brothers, James and Edward DeBoor, and a sister, Patricia De Boor. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to MercyOne Hospital, Dubuque, Midwest Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit, Dr. Gregory Vandigo, Midwest Senior Community and Hospice of Dubuque who provided amazing care and comfort to our beloved Ted and father. We are grateful for all the support our family has received as well.
