Gary Lapidus

Gary Lapidus, 74 of Galena, IL passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 to 7 PM, Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Military honors will be accorded following the Celebration of Life at 7 PM by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. He was born April 18, 1944, in Chicago the son of Jack and Edith (Rich) Lapidus. Gary served in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964. He was united in marriage to his wife of forty-four years Sharon Bilka on March 30, 1974, in Chicago and she survives. Gary worked for the Chicago Police Department where he served as a Sergeant for twenty-seven years until his retirement. He was an avid golfer. Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon, a daughter, Dayna (Nate Johnson) Lapidus, his son, Jason Lapidus, three sisters-in-law, Sherae (Jeff) Holder, Susan Donis and Wanda Lapidus, brother-in-law, Julio Donis, two nephews, Kyle (Megan) Holder and Bradley Donis, two nieces, Kayla Holder and Melissa Donis. “Uncle too many nieces and nephews.” He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Alan Lapidus, two sisters, Fran Hunt and Harriet “Hindy” LeCroy. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Mercy Medical Center and Dr. Gregory Vandigo and all their staff as well as Hospice of Dubuque. Your care and compassion during this difficult time will never be forgotten.
