Gwen known as Wendy Rudd, 80 of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral service will be 4 PM, Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and where friends may gather after 3 PM until time of service. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. She was born May 10, 1938 in Ilford, Essex, England the daughter of Arthur and Kit Bolam. Wendy married Ken Rudd on March 5, 1973, in Falmouth Cornwall, England and he survives. She was educated in England and took up the profession of nursing. Wendy has acted as a pre-school teacher both in South Africa and the USA. She has battled, with great courage, metastatic melanoma for over seven years, but especially over the last two very difficult years. Wendy was a fantastic wife, mother, and grandma and her dedication to her family was unparalleled. She was a keen quilter for many years and loved her quilting group here in Galena. Wendy was an avid gardener and her flowers were her pride and joy. She was an active member of the Territory walking group and the Territory tappers and it was with real regret that, due to her cancer, she could not keep this up for the last year of her life. Wendy also had such fun with her girls with their horses and events. She enjoyed some wonderful vacations both in the USA, UK, South Africa and a great visit to New Zealand. Wendy is survived by her husband, Ken of Galena, a sister, Pat of Bishops Castle, England, her children, Steve (Isabel) of Stevenage, England, Ian (Sam) of Kampala, Uganda, Neil (Anne) of Batavia, IL, Lesley of Cedar Falls, IA and Lindsay (Jim) of Hudson, IA, four grandchildren were her pride and joy, Andrew, Peter, Jordan and Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Roger. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Dubuque, whose care and attention was so greatly appreciated.
