Terry Lee Switzer, Sr., 73 of Galena, IL entered into eternal life Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral mass will be 11 AM Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena and where friends may call after 10 AM, Monday at Church until time of mass. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 PM, Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Scripture wake service will be held at 1 PM Sunday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held in the church cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded graveside by VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Terry was born March 22, 1945 to Vera (Stowe) Rangel and Clarence S Switzer in Dubuque, IA. He was united in marriage to Ellen Ann Nolan on January 29, 1966. He was a member of Local 94 and V.F.W. Post 2665, Galena, IL. He proudly and actively served in the U.S. Army from June, 1962 to June, 1965 and was honorably discharged. He returned to Galena after his military duty, where he held various jobs until he started at John Deere on January 2, 1970 from which he retired in 2001. He then did maintenance jobs at Stoney Creek Inn and Country Inn in Galena. In January 2010 he started his favorite job of all time, caring for his grandson Noah. He loved to camp, deer hunt, fish, bowl and spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-three years, Ellen, one son, Terry Jr. (Dawn) Switzer of Lena, two daughters, Teresa (Tom) Shaw of Galena, Connie (Sam) Parker of Springdale, AR, eight grandchildren, Abigail (Jesse) Rillie, Ashley Switzer, Nathan Switzer, Mathew DuBord, Noah Shaw, Zach, Jared and Brady Staver, six great grandchildren Lincoln, Landon, Lily, Liliana, Layla, Braxton and one on the way, four brothers Bill (Gloria) Sheredy, Gary (Lou Ann), Tyler and Todd (Rhonda) Switzer, two sisters Judy and Jody Switzer. A special sister-in-law, Susan Funston. In-laws Eileen Switzer, Kathryn Randecker, John (Shirley) and Bob (Pat) Nolan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Two special aunts Eileen Cox and Sheila (Bob) Zink. Terry is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ronald Switzer and Max Parker, one granddaughter Alicia Staver, seven brothers-in-law, Kenny Burbach, Floyd Robson, Bill Randecker, Mick, Francis and Bill Nolan, Richard Funston, one sister-in-law Carol Burbach-Robson, two uncles Darvin Cox and Robert Stowe. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Wells and the staff at Midwest Medical Center, Grand River Oncology staff especially Dr. Herman, Tony Heiar, Linda and Laura and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and kindness during this difficult time.
