Roy H. Clingman

Roy Clingman, 89, of Galena, IL passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Prairie Ridge, Galena. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, April 14, 2018, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Galena.  The family will greet friends beginning at 10 AM at the church prior to the service.  Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM,   Friday, April 13, 2018, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Roy was born on March 2, 1929, the son of Charles and Helen (Long) Clingman in Oelwein, IA.  On August 30, 1953, he was united in marriage to Joan Smith in State Center, IA and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2009. Roy graduated from the University of Iowa in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.  He put his heart and soul into his own business – Clingman Pharmacy, Galena from 1958 until 1994.  He continued working there for his daughter Connie Consedine and her husband Dan until his retirement in 2006. Roy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor.  Roy loved family, work, church and community with extraordinary passion.  He served on many boards in Galena throughout his life and helped to support numerous projects to make the city of Galena what it is today. Surviving are his three children Connie (Dan) Consedine, of Galena, Jon (Julie) Clingman of Vinton, Iowa, and Doug (Lea) Clingman of Roswell, Georgia; five grandchildren, Eileen Consedine, Megan Drew, Madison Kemp, Emma May and Abigail Clingman; two sisters-law, Delores Meadows, of Superior, WI and Marian Kormanik, of Bloomington, MN; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Wayne and a sister Althea Lenz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Galena Foundation or The Galena ARC in memory of Roy.
