Robert R. “Bob” Weimer, 87, of Galena, IL passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Manor Care, Dubuque, IA. Funeral service will be 7 PM, Monday, May 20, 2019, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and where friends may call after 5 PM until time of service. Military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the service by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Cremation rites will follow and burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. He was born July 28, 1931, in Chicago, IL the son of Edward and Ruby (Hoskins) Weimer. Robert was united in marriage to Charlene Pearson on May 5, 1951, in Forest Park, IL and she survives. He attended General Beadle State Teachers College for a while and then enlisted in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force as a truck mechanic he joined the Illinois Air National Guard, after receiving his honorable discharge he joined Commonwealth Edison Company. He was a Boy Scouts of America troop leader. He was an amateur radio operator – N9VRR. Robert worked for Commonwealth Edison Company for 45 years as an equipment analyst and after retiring Charlene and Bob spent summers traveling with their Airstream on Wally Byam Caravans before moving to Galena. He was active in the Galena VFW Post #2665, Galena Elks Lodge #882, American Legion Post #193 and was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Robert enjoyed being around his two dogs; Shawna a Labrador retriever and Amber a German shepherd. He is survived by his wife, Charlene of Galena, two sons, Richard Weimer of Galena and David Weimer of Chicago, IL, a daughter Sharon (Michael) Henson of Bremerton, WA, grandchildren, Aaron (Jessica) Gourley, Baylon (Amanda) Gourley, Skana ( Brad) Sloman and Melissa (Billy) Skagg, three great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Thomas Weimer. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in memory of Robert.
