Robert “Bob” Horbach 82 of Galena, IL passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, February 18, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena where friends may gather after 9 AM at the church until the time of mass. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family.  He was born on April 27, 1940, the son of John and Della (Morisette) Horbach in Chicago, IL. Bob graduated from St. Rita High School, in Chicago. He married the love of his life Anne, and they have shared thirty-three wonderful years together. Bob served as a Chicago Police officer for five years. He next joined the Chicago Fire Department and performed various jobs including driving the hook and ladder truck and most importantly became the best firehouse cook. His cooking was legendary in each of his various stations. Bob retired from CFD in 1994 after twenty-seven years. After retiring he moved to Galena with his wife Anne. Once in Galena Bob joined the Galena Territory Fire Department, serving as a volunteer for ten years. He managed the Galena Territory Marina for six years then spent ten seasons working at Eagle Ridge golf course. All these jobs tied back to Bob’s favorite interests, golf, fishing, and sports of any kind. Known as a die-hard White Sox fan and Chicago Bears lover, he could be counted on to gather with a gang to watch a game any day. He is survived by his wife Anne, his son, Troy (Kristin) Horbach of East Dundee, two stepdaughters, Sue (Ted) Miller of Decatur, Heidi (Johnny) O’Shea of Galena, and was blessed with eight grandchildren, Elise and Aubrey Horbach, Natalie and Evan Miller, and Dan (Kellie), Tim, James, and John O’Sheaand one great-grandchild, Rose O’Shea, he was a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Adrienne, and one brother, John. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Galena Territory Fire or the donor’s choice. Everyone remembers Bob as a great cook, expert woodworker, fisherman, and sports fan. And all know, he never met a beer he didn’t like. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kirkendall and Martin, the Galena Territory Security, and local EMS for their care and compassion.
