Raymond William Erner, 72 of Galena, IL passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be 11 AM, Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena where friends may call after 9 AM until time of mass. Military honors will be presented by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193 following the mass at church. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will follow the funeral mass. The furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born February 10, 1945 in Menominee, IL the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Vogt) Erner. Ray served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1967. He was united in marriage to Kathern Benson on August 22, 1970 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena and she survives. Ray farmed and served as East Galena Township Road Commissioner for many years and most recently worked for Mike and Nick Sproule Construction until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Ray is survived by his wife, Kathern, his daughter, Elizabeth (Kevin) Schilling of Galena, two grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Schilling, three sisters, Mary Ann Kuhl, Rosie (Garland) White, Carol Erner and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Julia in infancy and a brother, George Erner.
