Priscilla Jo Campbell

Priscilla Jo Campbell

Priscilla Jo Campbell, 81, of Galena, IL, died peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2020.

Priscilla was an enthusiastic naturalist and bird watcher who loved participating in national ornithological studies to map bird populations that contributed to a better understanding of the birds of North America.  This was her lifelong passion and she built an extensive bird species life list.

She enjoyed participating in community betterment efforts such as the Nature Conservancy, historical organizations and museums, the League of Women Voters and a wide variety of arts and civic organizations.  She believed in helping others, and avidly gave back to and improved the communities where she lived.

In the late 70s, Priscilla co-founded and directed a women-owned commercial translation service that provided complex commercial and technical translations for multi-national corporations, employing dozens of skilled native speaking independent contractors.

Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who put her family first.  She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald, their children Benton and Bethany, and grandchildren Emily, Evan, and Nathan.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Benjamin Christopher Tvedt Memorial Lectureship Fund, care of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.

“We think about her every day and miss her dearly.  Don’t be sad because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
