Patrick M. “Mike” Farrell, 71 of Galena, IL passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena. Funeral mass will be 11 AM, Thursday, March 22, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena where a parish rosary will be recited at 4 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Mike was born August 2, 1946, in Dubuque the son of Patrick and Lois (White) Farrell. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Susan Miller on February 26, 1972 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena. Mike later received his Associate’s degree from Blackhawk Community College, Moline, IL. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1964, serving in Vietnam for one year as a medic and was honorably discharged in 1968. Mike worked at the Savanna Army Depot for many years until its closing. He then transferred to the Rock Island Arsenal serving as the lead in artillery ammunition until his retirement in 2011. In total, he worked for the Department of the Army for 36 years. In 2005, he volunteered to work in Kuwait in support of the Iraqi War effort working there for six months. Mike was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, VFW of Hanover and Galena, Galena Golf Club. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Susan, his daughter, Elizabeth (Jerad) Albracht, his two beloved grandchildren, Erin and Trent, a brother, Terry (Patti) Farrell, a sister, “PK” (Eric) Faramus and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter, Molly and a sister-in-law, Janice Farrell.
