Patricia J. Schuler, 80 of Galena, IL passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at her home. Funeral mass will be 11 AM, Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena. Friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 AM, Friday prior to the funeral mass at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born on March 4, 1938, in Chicago, daughter of George and Jane (Herbert) Evans. She graduated valedictorian from Loretta High School, Chicago. Patricia married John “Jack” Schuler on August 22, 1959, in Chicago and he preceded her in death. Patricia and Jack moved from Chicago to Galena in 1974 in order to raise their family in a smaller town and to pursue Jack’s dream of owning his own business. Family and faith were the most important things in her life. She loved to spend time with her four granddaughters, playing board games and attending their sporting and school events. Mrs. Schuler was the Religious Education Coordinator at St. Mary Church for 18 years and a teacher for many more. Under the employment of Jo Daviess Health Department, she organized the first Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Special Supplemental Food Program for Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties. She also worked at Grant’s Home, Signcraft Screenprinting, Dubuque Human Services Department and was a partner in Jack’s family business, Schuler Plumbing and Heating. Surviving are her two sons, John Jr. and Phil (Deb), their daughter Sydney; two daughters, Mary Jane and Peggy (Michael), their daughters Jacqueline, Valerie and Lindsay; her two brothers George (Marilee) and William (Suzi). She had much love for her many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister, Mary. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be directed to the religious education program for St. Mary and St. Michael Parishes in Galena.
