Norman “Norm” Bohnsack

Norman Robert “Norm” Bohnsack, 82, of Galena, IL, passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2026. In keeping with his wishes, private family services will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family. He was born on January 30, 1944, in Estill Springs, TN, the son of Norman and Robbie (Armstrong) Bohnsack. Norm was raised in Galena, where he graduated from Galena High School before attending Eastern Illinois University. On December 23, 1967, Norm married his wife of 44 years, B’Ann Breeze McCoy, who preceded him in death on April 16, 2011. He married Sheri Mill on August 11, 2012, and she survives. Norm was a Health and Physical Education teacher at Warren High School. Beyond the classroom, he was known for his love of the outdoors and his passion for hunting and fishing. He founded the Apple Canyon Lake Bass Club and remained a longtime member. Above all else, Norm cherished his family. He was a proud father to Bryan (Jolene) Bohnsack and B’Ann (Dan) Dittmar; a loving PawPaw to Ariel (Craig) Weatherby, Brynn (Payton) Calow, Brayden, and Addy Bohnsack, Chase, and Brooke Dittmar; a blessed great-grandfather of Mya Breeze and Maddox Weatherby, and Cooper Calow; a brother-in-law to Mike (Shelly) and Marc (Michele) McCoy, and Bill (Karon) Oldenburg; and a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Jack, who was a faithful companion. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Randy, a sister, Sherry, and a sister-in-law, Bettze Libson. The family invites those who knew Norm to remember him by petting a dog, spending time outdoors, sharing time with family, and telling a hunting or fishing story, or both.

    So sorry to hear about Norms passing. I was his neighbor and best friends with his sister Sherrie on the East Side I have many fond fond memories, one in his accidental bow and arrow shot of a pigeon, we were all devastated, even he was surprised he hit it,…..,My sincere condolences to Norms family May his SPIRIT SOAR
