Michael McGuire

Michael Owen McGuire, 83, of Galena, IL was welcomed home by our Lord and Savior on March 29, 2022. He spent the final years and days of his life surrounded by his loving family and friends. A gathering will be held from 1 to 3 PM, Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Michael was born on March 5, 1939, in Vinegar Hill. He was the son of William Darby and Mary (Sullivan) McGuire, brother to Mary Rose Ernzen. Michael’s family moved to Galena when he was young, which is where he married Sharon Ann McGuire on November 25, 1960. Together, they lived in Galena and raised their four children. Michael loved to drive and travel, which led to him driving semi-trucks with RUAN Transport and Milligan Bros. Transportation for over 50 years. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local 421 for thirty-nine years, thirteen of which he served as Vice President and collected various stories that he would share with others throughout his life. Michael enjoyed being outside in the sun, mowing the lawn and burning things, listening to country music, spending time with his family or friends, and fixing old cars. His pets and the Green Bay Packers also had a special place in his heart. Michael is survived by three children, a daughter, Debra (William) Bennett, two sons, Scott and Timothy McGuire, five grandchildren; Shannon Thompson, Bryan (Lauren) Loonsfoot, Laken (Aaron) Jacobs, and Annie and Matthew McGuire, as well as four great-grandchildren; Gage and Janie Thompson, and Zayden and Emry Loonsfoot, a brother-in-law, Kenny Olson, three sisters-in-law; Nancy White, Leanne Gaulke, and Cheryl Schuckert, several cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as his beloved pets; Cocoa and Lucky. He is preceded in death by his parents, his caring wife, a son, Patrick, a great-grandson, Lium Thompson, his sister, mother and father-in-law, Leo (Ann) Greene, four brothers-in-law: Jeffrey Greene, Ron Gaulke, Skip Schuckert, and Alfred Ernzen, sister-in-law, Patricia Olson, great-niece, Keanah Bates, and his furry companions, Shorty and Brandy. A special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque for their tremendous help.
