Mary Kathryn Randecker
Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Randecker, 87, of Galena, IL, died at 8:42 AM, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Midwest Senior Care Center, Galena. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. A parish rosary will be recited at 12:30 PM before the visitation. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 18, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena, where friends may call after 10:30 AM until the time of mass. The burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born on November 24, 1936, in Galena, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Symons) Nolan. Kathy was united in marriage to William “Bill” Randecker on July 2, 1955, and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2008. She graduated from St. Michael’s School and Galena High School. She worked in the medical field at Galena Hospital as a C.N.A. and as an ER Admitting Clerk at Finley Hospital, Dubuque, until her retirement. She enjoyed trips with dad and friends. She also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, bowling, playing cards, bingo, watching her soap operas, and holiday baking. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends. All babies were special to her, as she loved cuddling them. To the kids in the neighborhood, she was known lovingly as “The Witch.” She is survived by her three sons, Richard (Laura) Randecker, East Dubuque, IL, Randy (Lynn) Randecker and William (Carla) Randecker, both of Galena; three daughters, Karen “Missy” (Kyle) Marsden, Galena, Sharon (Tim) Streight, Hanover, IL, and Michelle (Randy Weber) Randecker, East Dubuque, 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, three siblings, Ellen Switzer, Susan Funston, and Bob (Patty) Nolan, all of Galena; a sister-in-law, Shirley Nolan, of Cuba City a brother-in-law, Terry (Mary) Randecker of Cuba City, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Mary Beth; two grandsons, Jaime and Jacob Marsden; four brothers, Michael, William, Francis, and John Nolan; one sister, Carol Burbach-Robson; six brothers-in-law, Richard and Donald Randecker, Richard Funston, Terry Switzer Sr., Kenneth Burbach and Floyd Robson; a sister-in-law, Barbara Randecker; and two grandsons-in-law, Captain David Schultz II and Jason Diaz. The family would like to thank the Midwest Senior Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque staff for all the comfort and care they provided to Mom.
