Mary Ann Branagan

Mary Ann Branagan, 71, of Wheeling, IL, hit her expiration date on December 28, 2025.

She was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Ortscheid) Branagan. Mary Ann was a member of the final graduating class of St Michael’s Grade School and the 1972 class of Galena High School. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, she spent most of her career in the publications departments of medical societies in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Her favorite place was the west coast of Ireland. She was a great fan of art museums, both at home and abroad. The Milwaukee Irish Fest was on her calendar every August.

After the 2024 presidential election, Mary Ann wasn’t sure she could survive another Trump term; turns out she couldn’t.

Mary Ann is survived by her generous sisters, Donna and Carol, and their spouses, Terry Bausman and Martin Tinberg; niece, Vanessa (Ben), and nephew, Colin (Megan); great nieces, Natali and Elena; great nephew, Ben, and the Bonding Group (you know who you are).

She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Chuck.

Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of memorials or flowers, Mary Ann asked that you support your local library and read banned books.

MAB ! What a sweetheart . Heart of gold, fun lady, great personality, and fun to be around. I know she wrote her own obituary, which I am sure was a bit difficult. But as you read it, the true personality comes out. She will be greatly missed, but there is no more pain. Her love of the west coast of Ireland says a lot. Rest in peace sweet lady. Make sure Chuck buys the beers !

As a friend and fellow member of the GHS class of 72, I am deeply saddened by the news of MAB’s passing. She was very smart and livened up every room and conversation she was in. I will always remember her with great fondness and joy.
