Marilyn Verlea Ohms, 87 of Galena, IL passed away Monday, April 15, 2019, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, IL. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and where friends may gather after 10 AM until time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Cremation rites have been accorded. On August 28, 1931, Marilyn Verlea Wills, was born in Scales Mound, Illinois to the proud parents Russell and Inez Mary (Cliff) Wills. She had many fond childhood memories of her neighborhood in Council Hill. She graduated from a small one room school house in Council Hill then worked her way through the Galena High School graduating in 1949. She went on to marry Eugene T Ohms. They raised their children living in Council Hill, Scales Mound and finally settling in her favorite neighborhood, Dewey Avenue in Galena. She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Galena. She worked in many places in the surrounding area some of which were Montgomery Ward’s Catalogue Store, Eaton’s in Hanover, the Cuba City Hospital, Galena Stauss Hospital and Midwest Medical Center. She was known for her delicious pie. Her favorite pastimes included doing crossword puzzles, going camping, genealogy research, watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities whether it was a parade, play, concert or sporting event! She was always in there cheering them on no matter what they were doing! She is survived by her children, David (LaVonne) Ohms, of Galena, Daniel (Jeanne) Ohms, of Hanover, IL and Nancy (Dennis) Brown, of Tiffin, IA, her grandchildren Matthew (Kari) Ohms, Andrew Ohms, Robert Harlan (Mireya) Ohms, Valerie (Brandon) Deininger, Samantha (Jim) Hill, Danyelle (Mike) Kirschbaum, Toni (Nate) Klein, her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jacob and Sydney Ohms, Ricky, Miranda and Jordon Garza, Makayla and Logan Phillips, Jackson and Elyza Deininger, Colton, Sadie and Cheyenne Hill, Destiny and Xavier Kopp Meiners, Ryan Kirschbaum, Gary and Leonard Klein, sisters, Carol Ohms, Norma (William) Davis, Evelyn Wiegel, sister and brother-in-law’s, Ann Knautz, Mary Saam, John and Susan Ohms, Wayne and Ann Clarkson, Mary Ann Ohms and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Harland and Kenneth Wills, infant sister, brother and sisters-in-law’s Herman, Robert, William Ohms, Walter and Eva (Tobie) Ohms, Charles and Erma Ohms, Leo and Marguerite Schuller. Thank You to all her friends from Council Hill, Dewey Avenue and James Street for being there for her along the way. Special thank you to Dr. Vandigo, the Staff of the Elizabeth Nursing Home, staff of the Midwest Medical Center, and FHN Hospice Staff.
