Marie E. Oldenburg
Marie E. Oldenburg, 96, of Galena, IL passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 23, 2016, in Galena. Funeral mass will be at 10:30am, Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7pm on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena where a parish rosary will be recited at 4pm. Marie was born January 24, 1920, in Galena and was the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Francke) Wienen. She was united in marriage to Ambrose Oldenburg on September 15, 1942, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena and he preceded her in death on December 13, 2001. She was a devoted farm wife until their retirement. Marie was a dedicated church member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was baptized and married. Her Catholic faith was central to her life, a trait she passed on to her entire family. Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Ron) Eike of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, Renee (Alex) Mitchell of Edina, MN, Joshua Eike of Yale, IA, Kevin (Jennifer) Eike of Portland, OR, Stephen (Emily) Eike of Dayton, OH, and Brian (Meghan) Eike of Seattle, WA; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ben, and Mia Mitchell, Evan, Jack, Kallan, Vincent, Victoria, and James Eike; two brothers, John (Blenda) Wienen and Merlin (Phyllis) Wienen, both of Galena; five sisters in-law, Mary Wienen and Rose Oldenburg, both of Galena, Antoinette (Jim) Staggs of Lebanon, OR, Imelda Olech of Chicago, IL, and Doris Virtue of Galena, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Francis, Harold, Raymond, Dorian, and her brothers and sisters in-law. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Galena Stauss Assisted Living and Nursing Home, Midwest Medical Center, and Dr. Gregory A. Vandigo. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten. The family would also like to thank Marie’s special friend, Elly Renner, for all the time she spent with her.
