Mae Schoenfeld, 82 of Galena, IL passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at Midwest Medical Center, Galena. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. She was born March 13, 1933 in Galena the daughter of John and Elsie (Wolf) Steinle. Mae graduated from Galena High School the class of 1951. She was united in marriage to Louis “Shorty” Schoenfeld on March 3, 1956 in Galena and he survives. Mae worked at Sally’s Dress Shop and Geiger Shoe store for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed fishing, ginseng hunting, caring for her flowers, visiting with friends, and feeding the wildlife especially her deer. Mae was an active lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Galena. She is survived by her husband, Shorty, three sisters in-law, Jeannine Steinle, Helen Schoenfeld and Velda Schoenfeld, all of Galena, a cousin, Anna Rose Ziechs of Joliet, IL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Maurice “Brownie” Steinle and Donald “Bud” Steinle. The family wishes to extend a special thank you the Galena EMT’s, Galena Police Department and the staff at Midwest Medical Center.
