Louis A. “Shorty” Schoenfeld
Louis A. “Shorty” Schoenfeld, 90 of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena where military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. He was born August 7, 1927 in Galena the son of Albert and Mae Julia (Petitgout) Schoenfeld. Shorty served in the United States Navy as a mechanic for the Blue Angels from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1948. He was united in marriage to Alta Mae Steinle on March 3, 1956 and she preceded him in death on October 19, 2015. Shorty owned and operated the Galena Brass & Aluminum Factory for over thirty years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, ginseng hunting and bowling where he had where he had many 300 games. Shorty was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a lifetime member of Galena VFW Post #2665. He looked forward to visiting with his friends at McDonald’s and his Tuesday morning at Midwest Medical Center’s cafeteria. He is survived by nieces and nephews, three sister’s in-law, Helen and Velda Schoenfeld, and Jeannine Steinle. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ralph, Fred and Francis “Boots” Schoenfeld, four sisters, Emma, Anna, Marcella and Eleanor, six brothers in-law. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, Hospice of Dubuque and Dr. Gullone. Your care and compassion shown to Shorty will never be forgotten.
