Laverne O. Muehleip
Laverne O. Muehleip, 92 of Galena, IL passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at Serenity House, Phoenix, AZ. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena where military rites will be accorded graveside by the Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. He was born on January 10, 1924 in Shullsburg, WI the son William Herman and Ella Marie (Burgess) Muehleip. Laverne graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1941. He served in the United States Army fighting at the Battle of the Bulge during WWII until his honorable discharge. After returning he attended the Rockford Business College and went on to attend the National Institute of Dry Cleaning. Laverne was united in marriage to Laura Ingrid Glanman on June 19, 1948 at United Methodist Church, Galena and she survives. He began his working career at Hanover Woolen Mills and the Savanna Army Depot. Laverne owned and operated the Mercury Dry Cleaners in Galena for over twenty years. He later worked as a laborer building bridges and roads for Glaze Construction. Laverne was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of VFW post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. He belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows where he served as Past Noble Grand of Wildey Lodge #5 and was currently serving as Vice Grand Rebekah Lodge #346. He was a seventy-year member of the Galena Elks Lodge #882 and the Galena Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Ingrid, of Galena, two sons, Marc (Amy) of Dubuque and Brett (Patt) of Shullsburg, WI, a daughter, Darcy Muehleip of Galena, three grandchildren, Valerie, Max and Zoe Muehleip, a brother, Norman “Huck” (Connie) Muehleip, one sister, Carolyn (Dick) Bussan, two sisters in-law, Marilyn Muehleip and Arleen Brobeck, two brothers in-law, Thomas (Mary) Glanman and John (Cora) Glanman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott and a daughter, Erin, three brothers, Delbert, Darrell “Doc”, and Paul Muehleip, a sister, Joyce Sanderson, four brothers in-law, Al Sanderson, Richard Glidden, Sherman Childs and John Brobeck, four sisters in-law, Margaret Muehleip, Mary Muehleip Kmucha, Greta Glidden, Jeannine Childs and two nieces.
