She grew up riding horses, pounding on bee hives and sewing feed sacks into award winning dresses. Times were lean and the family home was lost in a fire but in its aftermath she experienced the support of the local community and generosity of strangers and it became a lifelong habit to reach out and assist the people around her. In her teens, she survived rheumatic fever and though her heart was damaged she was tough enough to keep ticking for another 75 years. She graduated from Green Mountain High School and attended Iowa State University as a Home Economics Major. During registration for classes, Laura met the love of her life, Joseph Anglese Davis and they were married in 1950. A loving marriage led to their three children Teresa, Joseph and Susan. The next generations were expanded with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren she thoroughly enjoyed their celebrations and antics. She and Joe moved to the Galena area and enjoyed its many charms until Joe’s death in 2006. Laura continued her involvement with the Galena Bible Church planting gardens with Norma, creating Samaritan’s Purse boxes and folding bulletins on Friday with Beth. In 2017 she moved to assisted living at Galena Stauss where she continued to make friends and volunteer. She was still driving and actively traveling around the Tri-State area. She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Teresa (Peter) Roper of Mystic, CT, Joe L. Davis of Cuba City, WI and Susan (Bruce) Putman of Woodstock, IL, two grandchildren; Michael Scott Putman and Kenneth Bruce Putman, five additional step-grandchildren Holly (Matt ) Clendennen, Adam (Brooke) Kaiser, Ryan (Tara) Kaiser, Stacy (Tom) Pickel and Aaron Kaiser and their children.
