Kenneth L. Parrott, 93, of Elizabeth, IL passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Midwest Medical Center, Galena, IL. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church, Schapville, IL. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, October 7, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and after 10:30 AM on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Schapville Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193.  Ken was born September 17, 1922 in Guilford Township, the son of Nolah and Estella (Bahr) Parrott.  He attended country schools and went on to graduate from Elizabeth High School in 1938.  He served as a pilot and flight instructor in the United States Army Aircorp during WW II from 1942 until 1945, retiring as Lt Col of the Airforce Reserves in 1982.  Ken was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Nadig on June 15, 1947 and she preceded him in death in August of 1981. He later married Opal Andreas on September 3, 1988 at the Schapville Zion Church.  Ken took pride in providing for his family.  He had a tremendous work ethic, juggling his full-time work at Black Hawk Production Credit Association and running the family farm.  While not much for hobbies, he was a devoted family man.  He took great joy in hosting family gatherings, regularly serving as “Head Chef”.  Ken had great humor and whit, often being the life of the party over a board game or cards.  Ken was a devoted member of the Schapville Zion Church where he served in many capacities throughout his life.  Forging a strong bond with the community he served on the Elizabeth School Board and was a charter member of the Galena Rotary, recording perfect attendance over 25 years.  He is survived by his wife Opal, four children, Bonnie Sims of Galena, Douglas (Carol) Parrott of Sheridan, WY, Cindy (Tom) McCleary of Rock Falls, IL and Teresa (Terry) Montgomery of Galena, three step-daughters, Karen Knapp of Plano, TX, Kathy Parton of Galena, Rose Mary (John) Pratt of Sterling, IL, one step–son, Dr. John Moloney of Peoria, IL, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren,  eleven step-great-grandchildren, one brother, Austin of Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, sister in-law, Monique and a step-grandson Nate. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Midwest Medical Center, Dr. Vandigo, family and many friends whose support during this difficult time will always be remembered.
