Kathy Ann “Kate” White, 65, of Galena, IL, passed away on January 25, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by her family. A private ceremony will be held for close family and friends at 11 AM, March 9, 2024, followed by a celebration of life at Noon at 404 South Street, Galena (Robbie White’s Garage). She was born in Dubuque, IA, on October 21, 1958, the daughter of Russell and Mildred (Wickler) White. She graduated in 1978 from Galena High School. Kathy loved to take her beloved dog Whiskey B John of Coaltrain “BJ” to dog shows, where he placed 1st in many of them. She had a passion for creating custom artwork. All animals held a special place in her heart. She wrote and published two books: The Route to Africa by Kate White and Fantome in the Valley of Kings by Millie Russell (her pen name she chose in honor of her parents). Her second book was dedicated to her nephews, Brian, Tylor, and Jamie. In the early 80’s, she started working for the Historic Galena Foundation, where she grew her knowledge of antiques. In the last 20 years, she delivered papers for the TH. She is survived by her brother, Clint (Elaine) White of Galena, IL, sister Linda Van Gordon of Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Dawn “Cookie” White, several nieces and nephews; close friends, Alfred “Joe” Fessler, Mark Dahl, and her beloved cats, Callie and Peony. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Tom, Terry, and Jerry; four nephews, Brian, Tylor, Patrick, and Rusty; brother-in-law, Wayne Van Gordon; two sisters-in-law, Sandy, and Judy; close friend, Richard Burlingame, her longtime boyfriend, Dick Kramer and her beloved pets BJ, Oz and Sammy. The family would like to thank the Galena EMTs and University of Iowa Hospitals.
