John J. Anthony, 62, of Galena, IL passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday, May 6, 2019 at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community. Funeral service will be held at 7 PM, Monday May 13, 2019 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena where friends may call after 5:30 PM until time of the service. Burial will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. He was born June 9, 1956 in Oak Park, IL the son of Donald J. and Dolores (Kavanagh) Anthony. He graduated from Naperville North High School. John was employed at the Palace Campground in Galena for many years. He enjoyed listening to rock and roll and attending concerts. John loved his motorized cycles and watching NASCAR. He will be fondly remembered for his ability to tell a good story. John is survived by his significant other, Wendy Greene and her son, Billy, both of Galena, two sisters, Mary (Bruce Hoover) Anthony-Wilson of Scales Mound, IL and Heather (Joe) Monreal of Arizona, a brother, Richard Anthony of Elizabeth, IL and his nieces and nephews, Jessica (Charlie) Hollingworth, Richard “Tony” Dixon, Jacob Butcher and Joshua, Amanda and Sarah Wolf, Cole and McKayla Monreal. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, James and Joe Anthony. A special thank you to Dr. Vandigo, his nurse Paula, the staff at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community and Pastor Dianne Grace for their care, compassion and spiritual guidance. The family wishes donations be made to Hospice of Dubuque in memory of John.
