John H. Shillington
John Henry Shillington, 71, of Galena IL, died December 13, 2016 at his home with his wife and daughter at his side due to complications from ALS. Funeral service will be 6 PM, Thursday, December, 15, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may call after 3 PM until time of service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Burial will be held at a later date. He was born October 2, 1945 in Chicago, IL the son of John Henry Sr. and Frances Marie Shillington. John worked as a machinist traveling throughout the country, was a member of the Midwest Operating Engineers Union and an active member of the Eagles Club of Galena. He also loved fishing in Canada, collecting record albums, road trips with his family, and lovingly building his home on the 23 acre farm where he and Patty Welp-Lyden were married. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Patty, one daughter Lisa Marie (Daniel) Selthofer, two step-daughters Ami (Kevin) Wasmund, Amber (Shane) Stilson, one step-son Dustin (Traci) Lyden, brother Robert (Linda) Shillington, their children, Keri & Dana, brother-in-law, Milton “Chuck” Tousey, nephew, Michael (Laura) Tousey, their children Ava, Lana and Sophia. He is also survived by seven step-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Jean Tousey. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their care and support. The family requests no flowers.
