Joan E. Young
Joan Elizabeth Young, 72, of Cuba City, WI, formerly of Galena, IL, died April 8, 2019 at home with her daughter and husband at her side, after battling cancer. There will be a celebration of life at 2 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Galena Bible Church. In accordance with her wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel and Tri-State Cremation Services, Galena is assisting the family. Joan grew up on the near north side of Chicago, IL. on State and Ohio. As a child she fell in love with horses, and much as she begged her father Joan could not convince him to buy her a horse. On Joan’s 10th wedding anniversary Raymond bought her a horse, gorgeous Arabian Saddlebred mix. This event laid the ground work for her future in the horse business during the mid-80’s and 90’s. Joan and her family grew their passion for riding into a thriving business of training horses, teaching, showing both English and Dressage, and boarded horses. Joan retired in Galena in the late 90’s with her youngest son JP. In 1998 her mother, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with lung cancer, she went through a round of radiation, which severely depleted her mother’s system. Joan with her mother decided that she would live out whatever time she had at “the little house in Galena”. Her mother passed the following February. Twenty years later Joan herself lost the battle with throat cancer, after a strong fight to live. Joan lived 2 years longer than her surgeons predicted. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Young, and her 3 children, Raymond (Christine) Young, of Wausau, WI, Wendi Young-Watkins of East Dubuque, IL, and James Peter Young of East Dubuque, IL, her granddaughters, Brittany Rose Young, of East Dubuque, IL, Lily Young, of Wausau, WI, and Abigail Young, of Wausau, WI. The family would like to thank Grant County Hospice, Kim, Maggie, Brenda, and Jessica we cannot begin to thank you for your loving compassion you gave to Mom.
