Jean Richardson
Jean “Grandma Jean” Richardson, 92, of Galena, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 18, 2024. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM, on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena, where friends and family may gather after 10 AM until the time of mass. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. She was born June 11, 1931, in Galena, the daughter of John “Jack” and Virginia (McCarthy) Einsweiler. She graduated from Galena High School in 1949. Jean married Lenas “Junie” Richardson on May 4, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1980. She worked at Grant View Inn, the Dairy Dreem, and was the head cook at Galena High School for twenty-nine years until her retirement in 2002 – a job she thoroughly enjoyed. “Grandma Jean” loved spending time with her grandchildren, supporting them in their sports activities, riding bikes, taking them swimming and fishing. She enjoyed baking cookies and treats for them, plus her delicious pies. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and she cherished the time she spent with her family. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Jean was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She is survived by five daughters, Donna (Wayne) Bruun, Joyce (Dennis) Edmonds, Mary (Steven) Weber, Ann (Todd) Steinke, and Deb (Phil) Schuler; three sons, Jerry (Penny Powell), Tom (Terri), and Richard (Lynn) Richardson, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, JoAnn Johnston and Helene “Susie” (Charles) Davis, three sisters-in-law, Janet and Jane Einsweiler, Shirley Richardson, a brother-in-law, Edwin Cole, plus many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lenas; twins Donald and Debra, at birth; a sister, Jacqueline Cole; five brothers, Kenneth, Donald, John, Wayne, and Leon; a great-grandson, Tylor, sisters-in-law, Frances, Helen, Elaine Einsweiler, Betty, Anne Richardson, Dorrene Coates, brothers-in-law, Raymond Johnston, Donald, Frank, Charles Richardson, and Ray Coates. The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Dr. Mary Koenigs and Hospice of Dubuque. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or charities of your choice.
