Hung Il Chong

Hung Il Chong of East Dubuque, IL, succumbed to cancer at his home surrounded by his family on May 26, 2017. Private family services will be held at a later date. Hung Il will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, IL. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. Hung Il was born on December 22, 1934 in Japan. At the age of twelve, he moved to Masan, Korea where he spent his childhood years. He later relocated to Incheon, Korea where he married and had his two children. He was a member of the ROK Marine from 1958 through 1960. In 1972, Hung Il immigrated to the United States to seek new opportunities. He worked for various employers in Dubuque, Iowa until his retirement from FDL Foods. Hung Il remained a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend to all. Throughout his life, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with nature. He was a gifted artist with a love for painting and sketching portraits of famous people along with wildlife. With his unique talent, he was able to bring life to his many pieces of artwork. He had a very close-knit relationship with his brothers and placed priority to his family with love and generosity. Hung Il is survived by his wife Hae Suk, son Enboge, daughter Suki Han, daughter in-law Jaehee Chong, son in-law Il Chong Han, brother Su Nam, brother Tong Sul, sister in-law Kil Su, sister in-law Linda, his granddaughters; Jisoon Chong, Jiyun Chong, Jimee Chong, Miyoung Han, Jiyoung Han, as well as his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
