Howard H. Miller, 91, of Galena, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Midwest Senior Care Center, Galena. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may call after Noon until the time of service. The burial will be in the St. Michael’s Catholic cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded. He was born on June 20, 1933, in Menominee, IL, the son of Henry and Agnes (Banfield) Miller. Howard was united in marriage to Donna Dankbar on April 8, 1961, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2012. He worked thirty-two years at Barnstead-Thermolyne, Dubuque, IA until retiring in 1996. Following retirement, he worked odd jobs at Chestnut Mountain Resort, Galena Territory Property Owners Association, and Grants Home, all in Galena. Howard enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, cutting firewood, and driving around town. He is survived by one son, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Miller of Galena; three daughters, Cindy (Lynn Meyers) Miller of Rockford, IL, Lori (Steven) Stangl of Galena, and Lisa Kay Miller, of Cuba City, WI; nine grandchildren, Brian (Jacob Lindberg), Stacy and Scott (Mackie Mullane) Miller, Sarah (Argo) Sowinski, Andrew, Isaac (Riese Federman) and Natalie Stangl, and Hannah and Frank Anderson Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Monroe Miller and a great-grandson due in November, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters, Doris Richards and Colleen Timmerman-Thiltgen, one brother, Donald, and two brothers-in-law, Leo Timmerman and Cy Thiltgen. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and Midwest Senior Care Center for the excellent care given to Howard.
