Harry FitzJohn Lunde, 77, of Galena, IL, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A private family burial will occur at Rock Island Arsenal Veterans Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family. He was born in Chicago on December 5, 1947, the son of Frederick and Helen (FitzJohn) Lunde (some Galena residents may remember her as Helen Nixon). Harry married Bonnie Stach on October 30, 1976, at the United Methodist Church in Galena. He held various jobs in Chicago and Dubuque, IA, until his early retirement. Following retirement, he worked for ten happy years on the ground crew for the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa. Harry is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Cox, and his two sons, Dan (Dede) Livingston and Nathan (Lindsay) Lunde. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lynda Laucke. Instead of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation in memory of Harry. He lived his life by a simple motto: “Truly Grateful.”

Harry is one of the kindest, most genuine and interesting people I have ever known. I’ll always have great memories of backyard chats in the sunshine, talking about everything from birds, plants, trails, and books, to Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead. My sincere condolences to his family. He was the best neighbor and will be profoundly missed.
We loved visiting with Harry. There was always something interesting to talk about. He was such a kind and gentle man. He was always there to help whenever anyone needed him. We will miss him so much!
It is with much sadness that I send my sincere sympathy to Harry’s family and friends. Harry was one of the good ones! My late husband worked side by side with Harry as part of the GALE (Galena Area Land Enthusiasts) volunteer team and valued the friendship that resulted. When my husband was struggling, Harry offered support. His kindness and decency had no boundaries. Harry will be missed by many.
Harry and my dad were best friends. I have so many wonderful memories of them together in Galena. They took me to my first Grateful Dead show in 1992. I am eternally grateful to have had both of them in my life and Harry will be sorely missed. ❤️
