Gilbert J. Boeker, 91 of Galena, IL passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Ennoble Manor, Dubuque, IA. In keeping with his wishes there will be no public services and the burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born October 3, 1931, the son of Albert and Irmgard (Jasper) Boeker. Gilbert graduated from Proviso High School with the class of 1949. He served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. Gilbert was united in marriage to Dorothy Dieball on June 7, 1952, in Oak Park, IL and she preceded him in death on September 10, 2009. He worked for the Oak Park Police Department from 1954 until his retirement in 1985. Gilbert enjoyed fishing, older model cars, and animals, listening to Big Band sounds, and watching Judge Judy. He loved to tinker and work with his hands, building various types of models, and woodworking. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and the American Legion of Presque Isle, WI. He is survived by his two children, Paul (Alison) Boeker of Athens, GA, and Lynn (Gordon) Smith of Alpharetta, GA, and one granddaughter, Gayle (Mike) Bialas of Bartlett, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
