George A. Darrell, 91 of Scales Mound, IL passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at his home. A gathering will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. He was born November 9, 1931, in Wauconda, IL, the son of William and Evelyn (Roether) Darrell. George graduated from Wauconda Township High School and went on to attend the University of Illinois, at Navy Pier. He served in the Illinois National Guard. George was united in marriage to Betty Pracht in Riverdale, IL on February 3, 1953, and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2022. He was a registered architect, working for Holabird and Root; Perkins and Will Partnership serving as Vice President; and Urban Investment and Development Company where he served as Executive Vice President. After retirement, he continued to be a consultant. George was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Economics Club of Chicago, and the Chicago Building Congress. He enjoyed reading, traveling, woodworking, spending time with friends and family, raising and planting trees, and planting over 5000 trees in the Apple Canyon Lake area. Together with Betty, they built their original home in Wauconda, and the whole family built their house and other structures at Apple Canyon Lake.  He is survived by his sons, David (Lisa) of Iowa and Steven (Joan) of Michigan, his grandchildren, Caitlin, Fallon, Andrew, Lucas, and Jordan, and step-grandchildren, Alexandra, Catherine, Victoria, and Nicholas. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Douglas, on November 28, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to www.arborday.org in memory of George.
