Eugene R. “Geno” Sproule

Eugene R. “Geno” Sproule, 66, of Galena, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 11, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may gather after 1 PM until the time of service. A committal service will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday, August 26, 2024, in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Galena.  He was born on November 11, 1957, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Raymond and JoAnn Sproule. He was united in marriage to Megan Chapman on August 11, 1979, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2021. Geno worked for Thermo Fisher, and they closed after 34 ½ years of employment.  He then worked for Quanex Building, Louie’s Trenching at their Hahn Quarry, and for the Galena Golf Course doing ground maintenance part-time. He later married Connie Copeland on September 30, 2023, in Galena and she survives. Geno enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He also couldn’t pass up a good game of cards. Geno’s greatest joy was spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He was an avid Miami Dolphins and Chicago White Sox fan. Geno is survived by his wife, Connie; his two sons, Nathan (Michelle) and Joshua (Danielle) Sproule; two stepsons, Nathan (Paige) Simmons and Cody Allendorf, one stepdaughter, Emily (Noah) Simmons, five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four brothers-in-law, Rick (Mary) Chapman of Galena, Rod (Debbie) Chapman, of Oak Creek, WI, Kevin (Julie) Chapman, of Dubuque and Paul Chapman of De Pere, WI, six sisters-in-law, Brigid “Bea” (Kenneth) Ellerbach, of Dubuque, Cara (Roger) Middendorf and Kristen Chapman, both of East Dubuque, Lynn (Jeff) Bautsch, of Galena, Nikki (Scott Schemehorn) Dieter, of Galena, and Brenda (Dean) Beschen, of East Dubuque, mother and father-in-law, Wayne (MaryJo) Copeland, of Galena, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Terry, his wife, Megan, and a brother-in-law, Steve Chapman.
