Ellen Marguerite Whippo (nee Lloyd) of Galena, IL passed away on November 15, 2020, at Sunset Park Place, Dubuque, IA. A memorial service will be held when it is safer to gather. Cremation rites will be accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born July 29, 1927, the daughter of Leland E. and Neva (Westaby) Lloyd in Stockton, IL, where her family lived until 1938, when they moved to Galena.  After graduation from Galena High School. Ellen worked at Kraft Foods, where she met her future husband, William “Bill” Whippo. They married on November 12, 1946. Ellen was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church and Galena Chapter No. 740 Order of Eastern Star of the State of Illinois. As well as working hard to make a home for her family and raise her children, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed bridge, gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and time with the family pets.  Involvement in her community and relationships with her extended family and neighbors meant a great deal to her. Among her survivors are her three daughters: Melissa (Bill) Merkle, of Elizabeth, IL, Beth Rosenthal, of Dubuque, IA, and Vanessa Whippo, of Danville IL; two sisters: Donna Stockwell and Bette Prieto; five grandchildren: Ryan, Sam, and Andrew Merkle, Rachel Johnson, and Sylvia Whippo, and four great-grandchildren, Adrienne, Cale, Caden, and Remi Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, three brothers, Dwight, Sr., Carson, and Donnie Lloyd; and her sister, Ardith Harle.
