Elaine J. Barthel 79, of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully on June 4, 2022, at Heritage Woods, Freeport, IL. Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Zion Church of Freeport, 4292 W. Stephenson St. Road, Freeport with Pastor Steve Rios officiating. Friends may call after 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, IL. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born on November 12, 1942, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Aloysious and Bertha (Reistroffer) Ties. Elaine married Ken Barthel and together they had six children. Richard Barthel of Orangeville, IL; Cindy (Kirk) Schubert of Mount Carroll, IL; Jerry (Eloise) of Lena, IL; Susan (Keith) Cochran of Freeport, IL; Michael Barthel of Mineral Point, WI; and Curtis (Kathy) Barthel of Lena, IL. Elaine was a homemaker and devoted mother who dearly loved her family; sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three sisters, Marilyn Ties of Dubuque, IA; Maxine Peters of Galena, IL and Lori (Dave) Loney of Dubuque, IA, and four brothers, Ronald (Maggie) Ties of Graf, IA; Raymond Ties of Freeport, IL; Charles Ties of Dubuque, IA; and Larry (Julie) Ties of Galena, IL, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Evelyn, and Algean, and three brothers, Robert, Richard, and Melvin.
