Dr. Daniel “Doc” Schamper
Dr. Daniel “Doc” Schamper, 84, of Galena, IL passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at his home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 26, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena. Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM, Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Doc was born September 12, 1934, in Chicago, IL the son of Walter and Leona (Schultz) Schamper. He was united in marriage to his wife of fifty-four years Nancy Bussan on September 7, 1964, in Galena and she survives. Doc graduated from Amundsen High School, Chicago, IL. He attended Wright Junior College and went on to the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his doctorate in 1959. Doc worked as a vet and farmed all of his adult life. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. Doc served on the Scales Mound School Board for eight years. He was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge for fifty-nine years and the Knights of Columbus for sixty years. Doc belonged to several organizations: University of Illinois Alumni Association, AVMA, American Bovine Association, the Jo Daviess County Beef Association, and Holy Trinity Parish. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, three children, Ed (Zandra) Schamper, Kathleen (Rich) Mueggenborg and William Schamper, four grandchildren, Tiffany Lynch of CA, Jessica and Kyle Schamper of IN and Anne Mueggenborg of IL, one brother, Thomas (Pat) Schamper of NJ and his nieces and nephews. Doc was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Gary and Gary for all of their visits and Hospice of Dubuque especially Heather and Jen whose care and kindness will never be forgotten. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or Holy Trinity Parish, Scales Mound in memory of Doc.
