Donald R. O’Hara
Donald R. O’Hara, 86, of Galena, IL passed away June 10, 2018 at home with his children. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may gather after 10 AM until time of the service. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Galena where military rites will be accorded by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Cremation rites have been accorded. Don was born on May 16, 1932 in Seekonk, MA the son of Patrick and Blanche (Mount) O’Hara. He was united in marriage to Alice Peterson on July 2, 1955 at St. Leo’s Church in Milwaukee and together they had three children: James, Colleen and Patty. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2011. Don and Alice owned and operated Culligan Water Conditioning dealership together as a team in Galena for nearly 30 years. They ran the business with integrity and took pride in providing the community with a valuable service. Don had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and as a young man, served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He approached life with honesty and always looked for the best in others. He loved his family and enjoyed sports, especially his beloved Green Bay Packers. He is survived by his two children, Jim (Gynny) O’Hara of Davenport, IA and Patty (Robert) O’Hara of Chicago, IL, 2 grandsons, Michael O’Hara of Iowa City, IA and Andrew (Elizabeth) Hosmanek of Wilton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his daughter Colleen T. (O’Hara) Holdorf on January 12, 1992.
