Donald James Anthony, 87 of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community. A Celebration of Life will be at 7 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may gather from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home until time of service. Military honors will be accorded by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193 following the service. Burial will be held at a later date.  He was born on October 20, 1927 in Chicago, IL the son of Allen and Cecile (Tracy) Anthony. Don graduated from Proviso High School. He served from 1945 until 1949 in the United States Navy during WWII until his honorable discharge. After his discharge he went to work for his father in the electrical business. Upon his father’s passing he took over the business until he moved to the area where he continued doing electrical work. He later found a passion for antiques and opened his own shop in Galena. Don loved horseback riding, playing polo and fox hunting. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching “The Soprano’s” and “The Wire” and was always up for a good game of pinochle. He is survived by his three sons, Richard Anthony of Elizabeth, John (Wendy Greene) Anthony of Galena and Joseph Anthony of Bullhead, AZ, two daughters, Mary (Bruce Hoover) Wilson of Scales Mound and Heather (Joe) Monreal of Delaware, four grandchildren, Jessica (Charlie) Hollingworth, Richard Dixon, Jacob Butcher and Joshua Wolf, two great grandchildren, Cole and McKayla Monreal, a sister, Joan Vella and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Robert and James Anthony.
