Dean F. Harris, 86, of Galena, IL passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public services. Burial will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born September 17, 1935, in Dubuque, IA the son of Elroy and Faye (Murphy) Harris. Dean joined the United States Marine Corps in 1953 and served until his honorable discharge in 1956. He was united in marriage to Ethel “Toody” Bartell on March 21, 1959, in Galena and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2018. Dean worked at Westwick Foundry, Galena, and later Signcraft Screenprint, Galena until his retirement. He enjoyed working around his house and yard, feeding his birds, and especially raising the basset hounds he had in his life. He is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Tom) Rogers of Scales Mound, a son, James of Galena, three grandsons, Jamie (Heather) Harris, Cory, and Derek (Heide) Rogers all of Scales Mound, four great-grandchildren, Kylie Harris, Alice, Ellie, and Thomas Rogers all of Scales Mound. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, and brother-in-law, Sally (Bob) Spofford. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Mercy One third floor, Dubuque, Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, and Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care during Dean’s final days.
