David J. Haertel, 76, of Galena, IL passed away Monday, March 25, 2019, at Manor Care, Dubuque, IA. In keeping with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Burial and a Celebration of His Life will be at a later date. David married Kandise “Kandee” Hanson on November 9, 1968, in LaPorte, IN. David and Kandee honeymooned in Galena and fell in love with the area. Together they dreamed of making Galena their home and in 2000 they realized their dream. They spent many hours at Horseshoe Mound, horseback riding and simply enjoying all that the area had to offer. He is survived by his wife, Kandee, a brother, Gary (Lily) Haertel of Roselle, IL and a sister-in-law, Diane Haertel of Dunwoody, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee Haertel. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family.
