Darlene Schulz, 93, of Elizabeth, IL passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, in the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Elizabeth with the Reverend Mike Nesbit officiating. Friends may gather after 10 AM, Saturday at the church until the time of service. Following the funeral, there will be a lunch provided in the church basement. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She born in Elizabeth on January 21, 1924 the daughter of Harrison and Ada Mckillips. Darlene graduated from Milton High School, Milton, WI in 1942. From there, she moved to Melrose Park, IL. She married Melvin Schulz on May 4, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1990. Melvin and Darlene returned to Elizabeth in 1960 and made it their residence. Darlene was the co-founder of the Elizabeth Nursing Home, and was one of the original members of the institution’s board of directors. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and well-known and highly respected person in her community. Darlene is remembered with unending affection by her two sons, Eric A. (Diane) and Marc W. (Diana), three grandchildren, Amanda (Doug) Wilken, Jennifer (Tony) Marino and Eric Schulz, three great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Isla and Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Allen. The family wishes to warmly thank Helen Kilgore, Brenda Ertmer and Sue Grommes for their friendship, care and kindness.
