Cornelia “Ne” Sammon, 87 of Galena, IL passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at Manor Care, Dubuque, IA. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, IL. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Galena.

Cornelia (Ne) Sammon was born in Lake Forest, Illinois on January 14, 1935.  Ne graduated from Lake Forest Highschool in Lake Forest, Illinois.  She was married to James (Jim) Sammon on January 7, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Forest, Illinois.  Jim passed away on September 4, 2007.  After raising her children, Ne went to work as a Data Entry Supervisor at American Hospital Supply/Baxter for 15+ years where she won many awards including the 1991 PRO Award for her hard work and dedication.  Ne spent most of her retirement days shopping on QVC – her entire family were recipients of many packages on their doorstep which they all loved.  Her passion in life was not only her children but also her grandchildren as well. They meant the world to her, warmed her heart, and made her smile. Ne’s hobbies were reading and doing word searches (better known as “circle books” by Ne) and building her cardinal collection.  One of her favorite hobbies was shopping with her husband and bestfriend, Jim, which they did often. Together, Jim and Ne enjoyed decorating for every holiday, making their home look like something you would see in a Hallmark movie. She also found much enjoyment during any free time she had to do ceramics and needle point. Ne was incredibly loving, kindhearted, generous, strong, and a humble person who was loved by all who knew her.  She was the most amazing Mom who loved with all her heart and was always there to offer love and guidance for her children and grandchildren.  Spending time with her family was the most important thing in her life. Survived by her children,  Mary Cord, Bob Sammon (Dana),  Judy Verwijst (Anton); grandchildren: John Cord (Tammy), Matthew Junius (Lindsay), Patrick (Caitlyn) Junius, Megan Junius (Rob), Brandon Verwijst (Norie), Justin Verwijst (Emily), Collin Verwijst, Brittany Sammon, Edward James; 13 great grandchildren and one on the way. As well as two very special little girls, McKenzie and Isabella

Cornelia was preceded in death by her mother, Maryann Brofka, her father, Edward Brofka, her husband, James Sammon.
