Barbara Senne Hooper, 92, of Galena, formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL died Wednesday, January 19, 2022.  In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation. There will be a memorial service at Grace Episcopal Church, Galena, and then a private burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.  Those will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Barb was predeceased by her parents, John and Jean Senne, a brother, Jack Senne, and a son Donald “Chip” Hooper Jr. Barb graduated from Northwestern University in 1951. She was united in marriage to Donald Hooper (deceased) in 1952 in Glen Ellyn, IL. Barb was a moving force at Safe Haven Humane Society and was instrumental in getting the Safe Haven shelter established in Elizabeth, IL. For years, she was a volunteer tending to kittens and cats, fostering cats in her home, adopting cats, and arranging for friends to adopt cats.  In her later years, Barbara lived at Prairie Ridge of Galena, where she was one of the original residents. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Barb is survived by her children, Leslie Hooper Owens (Patrick), John (Cynthia), and Nancy Hooper. Her grandchildren are Steve Owens and Allison Veselka, Caroline Hooper, Kelly and Brian McMeans, and Max and Val Hooper. Her great-grandchildren are Max and Wes Veselka.  Barb is also survived by her nieces, Jean Addy and Amy Senne and Susan Curran, Donna Cohen, Daniel Curran, and Patrick Curran. Memorial contributions may be made to Safe Haven in honor/memory of Charlie, Richard, Kitty, Spike, Jane, Gracie, Psalter, Larry, Lucas, and Lucy.
