Daniel E. “Dan” Levens, 79 of Galena, IL passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at his home. Funeral mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. He was born July 22, 1938 in Rice, Township, the son of Justin H. and Alberta R. (Rolling) Levens. Dan graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959.  Dan married Delores “Dee” Titus on September 10, 1960 and she preceded him in death on February 20, 2010. He owned and operated Leven’s Concrete for thirty years and then went to work for Louie’s Trenching and was most recently working at Blackjack Machine Inc. Dan loved going to the farm and working in his large garden and was always willing to share the fruits of his labor. He enjoyed watching the birds, socializing, gambling and meeting his siblings in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. Dan was an avid reader and Bear fan. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena Fire Department and Galena Elks Lodge. Dan is survived by his five sons, Kelly and Kerry both of Galena, Robin (Marnie) of PA, Randy of MT and Jayme of CO, four grandsons, Trevor, Wyatt, Mitchell and Jack, three brothers, Ronald (Mary) Levens of Galena, Thomas (Barbara) Levens of Belvidere, IL and John “Dick” (Linda) Levens of Mission Viejo,  CA, three sisters, Elaine Smith of Hazel Green, WI, JoAnn Hubbard of Newport Richey, FL and Grace Bins of Bloomington, IL, his extended family, Doris Glick of Galena, Leah (Gregg) Greenwood of Dubuque, Rochelle (Brad) Hughes, Janelle (fiancée’ Jason) Greenwood and Brody Hughes, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers in-law, Earl Smith and Frank Bins and two nephews John Hubbard and Jeremy Levens. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to doctors, Crist, Kukla, Sullivan and Janes, the staff at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Midwest Medical Center, Galena, Hospice of Dubuque and Ron Smith Jr.  Your care and compassion these past few years will never be forgotten.
