Virginia Marie Ames, 91 of Edwardsville, IL and formerly Galena, IL peacefully passed at Rosewood Care Center, Edwardsville. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may call after 9 AM Saturday at the funeral home until time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. She was born October 18, 1924 in Galena the daughter of John and Mabel (Hudson) Rosenthal.  Virginia graduated from Galena High School. She was united in marriage to David C. Ames on January 16, 1946 and he preceded her in death on October 11, 1998.  Virginia was employed by Burgess Battery Company and retired from Eaton Corporation.  She loved to cross-stitch and made many quilts for her family.  Virginia was a wonderful cook and baker, often preparing meals from scratch using ingredients from her own garden.  She was an avid reader and faithfully served whenever needed at the Galena First United Methodist Church.  Virginia is survived by her sons, David (Linda) Ames and Craig (Brenda) Ames,  her grandchildren, Kimberly (Missy Brennan) Ames, Tammy Ames, Lea Ames, Brian Ames, Claire Ames, a brother, Larry (Kathy) Rosenthal of Dubuque, IA, three sister in-laws, Loretta Rosenthal of Cherokee, IA, Babs Rosenthal and Darlene Rosenthal both of Galena. She was preceded in death by, her parents, her husband, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to The First United Methodist Church, 125 South Bench Street, Galena, IL 61036. The family would like to thank the staff of Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, Assisted Living Facility for the kindness and care they provided to Virginia.
