Terry L. Summers

Terry L. Summers, 61 of Galena, IL passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. In keeping with his wishes there will be no public services. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born on January 24, 1962, in Chicago, IL, the son of Dan and Oma (Southwood) Summers. He graduated from Lakeview Heights High School with the class of 1980. Terry was united in marriage to Christine Delis on September 11, 1981, in Chicago, IL. He served as a craftsman for Plating & Tinning Corporation, Chicago, and was a CDL truck driver for twenty-four years. Terry had a good sense of humor and was always funny, he found humor in life the Southern way! He had the biggest heart, always helping and giving to everyone he came in touch with throughout his life, never expecting anything in return. Dad loved “fixing” things and never left a problem unsolved despite his very unconventional methods of solving everything with duct tape! The last few years of his life he spent moving closer to his grandkids to help be present for them. He enjoyed watching them play sports, taking them to McDonald’s “just because” and giving them way too much adult advice that we would rather not know about! He loved his son and his daughter they were his world. Terry enjoyed watching WWE with his son TJ and sending daily memes to his daughter Tiffany. He also helped Tiffany and Nick fix odds and ends around their house and was constantly organizing their place. Terry’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids whether it be at practice, games, dance, or gymnastics he enjoyed sharing the quality time with them. He loved his granddaughter, and constantly reminded everyone he encountered that she was “Grandpa’s girl” he lived for their weekly rides to dance or gymnastics, always having M&Ms waiting. Terry is survived by his two children, Tiffany (Nick) Marlette of Galena, and TJ of Galena, mother, Oma Summers of Crest Hill, IL, and four siblings; Diane (Rod) Habbe of Lockport, IL, Ron of Aurora, IL, Ricky (Kathy) of Gurnee, IL, Connie Summers of Scott Depot, WV, three half-siblings, Dan, Freddy (Jonnie) and Sheron all of CA; and the love of his life, Christine Summers of Galena. Tiffany and Nick are incredibly grateful for the calls, texts, visits, and genuine acts of kindness over the past week. They feel so supported by their incredible work families and their Galena communities. His dad and best friend Dan Summers passed away last year.  Terry always wanted to ensure that his grandkids came first. He helped Tiffany set up the kid’s first accounts. Any monetary donations will be transferred to these accounts that Terry ensured were set up. The family requests donations be made to Dupaco in Tiffany Marlette’s name to benefit his grandchildren.
