Roger John Weis, age 70, of Dubuque, IA, and formerly of Galena, IL, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may gather after Noon until the time of service. The burial of his cremains will be held privately at a later date in Fulton, IL. Roger was born on October 23, 1953, in Dubuque, the son of Harold “Tom” and Gertrude (Callahan) Weis. His greatest joys were his three children, grandchildren, and music. Roger’s voice touched so many people over the years. Roger will be fondly remembered for his 50-plus years of entertaining and sharing his voice with the world. He was proud to have sung for over 350 weddings, funerals, church services, nursing homes, and senior living communities. Roger was a man of great faith and was an ordained minister. He also enjoyed the karaoke business he operated until months before his passing. He was raised in Galena, where he spent most of his life, and graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1971. Roger was known in high school as an avid wrestler and a member of the band, choir, and theatre group. He continued to entertain throughout his life, Off-Broadway on Bench, Stillman Inn, Silver Annies, and many other Galena Theatre groups and productions, to name a few. Roger’s voice was known to bring a happy tear to your eye. His voice could be felt by all who heard him sing. After graduating High School, he went to United Electronics Institute in Des Moines, IA, where he earned his degree in electronics. At 50, Roger returned to college and received his degree in nursing as an LPN. Roger worked for the Galena Police Department, the City of Galena, Tri-State Tours, Galena Stauss Nursing Home, and later as a traveling nurse. Roger was known for his witty sense of humor. Many people called him “Pops” and “Dad” because of his ability to see the good in all he met. He welcomed people into his life and adopted them as his own. Roger married Cathy Jobgen in 1976 and, from this union, was blessed with his 3 children: Stacy, Robby, and Sean Weis. He later married Rhonda Mitchell, the love of his life, in 1994 in Galena; they were happily married for 24 Years until her passing in November 2018. Together, they primarily resided in Morrison and Fulton. Roger longed to be reunited with Rhonda at heaven’s gates since her passing. He leaves behind his three children, Stacy (Serg) Bouldoukian, Robert (Elly) Weis, and Sean Weis, his grandchildren, Kristin and Allyson Farrey, Khloe Bouldoukian, Izabelle, Lydia, and Tate Weis (baby Weis on the way), Alyssa Swamberger, Angeline and Seth, a brother Richard (Norma) Weis, brother-in-law, Rob Potter, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two siblings, Nicholas Weis and MaryAnn Potter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dubuque. The family would like to Thank Hospice of Dubuque for the excellent care of their father during his final days. They are indeed a blessing.
