Patricia C. Terry

Patricia Carol Terry, 97, of Galena, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Grace Episcopal Church in Galena. Friends may gather after 1 PM until the time of service. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family. She was born on January 29, 1928, in Davenport, IA, to John and Myrtle (Petersen) Foley. She graduated from Davenport High School and from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, with a degree in Music education. In 1949, she married Joseph Terry at Saint John’s Methodist Church in Davenport. The couple lived in Ames, Iowa, and Pat taught music in the public school, while Joe completed his degree in Veterinary Medicine. Pat and Joe spent the next forty years in Evanston and Wilmette, IL, where they raised three children, cared for countless orphaned animals and birds, and Joe opened the Terry Animal Hospital. Pat remained active in music and in theatre, both civic and professional. She was a member of the Peabody Award-Winning Chicago Radio Theatre on WFMT. When their youngest child went to college, Pat returned to teaching speech and drama, at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Chicago. In retirement, Pat and Joe moved to Galena, where Pat worked with the Main Street Players, teaching Acting Classes and appearing in several productions, her favorite being “The Trip to Bountiful.” Pat and Joe joined the Dubuque Community String Orchestra, playing violin and cello, respectively. Pat also established the choir at Grace Episcopal Church, which she directed for twenty-five years. She is survived by two sisters, Janet (Albert) Denk of Des Plaines, IL, and Laurel Foley of Denver, CO, children, Bríghid (Patrick) Malone, of Evanston, IL, James (Jennifer) Terry of Hanover, IL, Mark (Frances) Terry of Kennebunkport, ME, eleven grandchildren, Ruadhrí (Danielle Deschaine), Liam, Máire, Síle (Trey Chambers), Fíona (Tim Cronin), Brídín (Morgan Hobbs), Caítríona (Scott McKinzie), Ryan, Alasdair, Max Terry (Hilary Godin), Madalyn (Myles) Terry-Nipper, three great-grandchildren, River, Milena, and Whitney Terry, and twenty nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John David and Glenn Thomas Foley; sister-in-law Ina (Hays) Foley; nephew Guy Foley; and beloved husband Joe, in 2023.  Donations may be made to Hospice of Dubuque in her memory.
