Mary C. Harrelson

Mary “Bunny” Carolyn Allen Harrelson passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Midwest Medical Senior Care Center, Galena. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena. The burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Galena. Bunny was born on July 24, 1938, to Gladys Dahl Allen and Leo E. Allen. She graduated from high school in May of 1956 and then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. After graduation, she moved to her beloved Chicago, where she lived until returning to Galena in 2021. In August of 1968, Bunny married Leonard H. Harrelson in Chicago. Len passed away on June 26, 2004. Mary worked for her husband’s company, Keeler Polygraph, for several years, and her final position was at Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago. Bun loved every single dog she ever saw and owned several over her lifetime. She is survived by three stepchildren: Lenny, Larry, and Dawn (Ken) Harrelson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom she cherished and kept in touch with. She also had several close friends, including Mary Jane Bauer, Sheldon and Pat Auman Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Dawn (Gus) Mirando and Eleanor Lee (Neal) Odom, and two brothers, Richard (Verna) Allen and Ki David (Margaret) Allen. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Galena Assisted Living and Midwest Medical Senior Care Center.
